A couple of weeks ago I interviewed for a new full-time job, and I am so excited to share that I have been offered the role and I have accepted!
I have taken the past couple of weeks off to just relax. Applying for new jobs is beyond stressful and I would be lying if I said my mental health wasn't affected. Over the course of four months, I applied to 80+ jobs. Out of all of those applications, I interviewed four times for two different roles. THAT'S IT. Being repeatedly told no and receiving generic rejection emails is hard. I have the utmost sympathy for anyone going through the job search process.
Being in the middle of the global pandemic did not help either. It seems that most companies are firing and not hiring; however, there are still opportunities out there.
On top of that, I am a foreign visa holder. It is a struggle to find a job on a temporary visa in general. From what I have heard, finding jobs while on a visa used to be very easy in the early 2000s to 2015. There was a shortage of qualified workers in Australia. That is not the case anymore. To say I am thankful to find a full-time role that is not a short term contract is an understatement. I have friends here with Master's degrees working 3-month contracts to 1-month contracts and then onto another contract.
I am very excited to say that I will be filling the role of Marketing and Project Coordinator for Stevie Says Social. It is a new role for a small company, and it sounds like the perfect opportunity for me. I will be splitting my time working remotely and at a coworking space on the Gold Coast, which is an unbelievable find. Check out the Flockd website to see what my new office will look like.
I fell in love with project management while studying, and I knew it was the area I wanted to pursue. To find a role that has both marketing and project management is a dream come true for me. Additionally, I will be working for a woman-owned business which is a huge plus for me!
I officially start on Monday, so wish me luck as I turn into a full-time adult again haha!
Over the course of my little at-home holiday, I went to the beach a lot, celebrated new jobs and birthdays with friends, stayed in a cabin out in the Gold Coast hinterland, took many naps, tried out new recipes, and read a couple of books that I wanted to share...
What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding by Kristin Newman - this is a travel memoir by an American woman and I have now read it twice. I highly recommend it if you are a woman who loves to travel!
It All Comes Back to You by Beth Duke - one of those books that has flashbacks and goes back and forth in time. It is set in Alabama and the ending is a huge surprise!
Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton - another memoir by a British woman. It is about growing up and adjusting to friends' lives changing at different times.
Carnegie's Maid by Marie Benedict - I don't believe this is true, but it is a historical fiction story about the love between Andrew Carnegie and his Irish maid.
Tuk-Tuk for Two: Escape to India with two strangers, in the unforgettable race of a lifetime by Adam Fletcher - another travel memoir about two strangers who complete in a 1000k race across India.... do I want to compete in the race now? Of course.
I love travel memoirs (obviously) and memoirs in general. If you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments below!
